MMY welcomes Charles Vermace, EIT

We’re happy to announce that we’ve added more talent! Charles is a University of Minnesota grad, and recently returned to Minneapolis after a few years in Iowa, where he gained experience designing industrial and energy generation facilities. He is quickly acclimating himself to life at MMY, and we’re pretty sure we know where he stands on the longstanding donut vs. bagel debate (the bagel folk are waiting for him to change his mind).

Welcome, Charles!

Eric McElrath named Emerging Leader by the American Council of Engineering Companies MN Chapter

We are proud to announce that Eric McElrath was recognized by ACEC MN with the Emerging Leader Award for 2018!  The award is given to an ACEC member still in the early stages of his or her career who has already contributed significantly to the association.  Eric demonstrates not only a thorough understanding of structures, but also exemplifies true character in his daily interaction with colleagues and clients alike.  In addition to his engineering projects— the recently re-opened Minneapolis Armory and the in-progress North Loop Tower, to name a couple— Eric makes time to give back to the industry and community by volunteering through a number of organizations.  He was a founding member and chair of the Minnesota Structural Engineers Association Young Members Group (MNSEA YMG), which won an award for Young Member Group of the Year at the National Council of Structural Engineers 2017 convention.

Congratulations, Eric!

Emanuel Housing wins Affordable Housing Design Award

We are proud to announce that Emanuel Housing has been recognized by AIA Minnesota and The McKnight Foundation for the 2018 Affordable Housing Design Award. We had the opportunity to collaborate with RS EDEN and Cermak Rhoades Architects on this project that makes an immediate positive impact on the community. The building stood out to the jury for its integration of new and historic structures, as well as the mission of the design team to incorporate health care and support services, serving residents and the neighborhood.

Higher Ground St. Paul recognized by Precast Concrete Institute

Recently, Higher Ground St. Paul received Honorable Mention in the 2018 All-Precast Concrete Solution Award category. The five-story emergency shelter and residential facility is the first phase of the Dorothy Day Place project, a concerted effort to combat homelessness in our community. We were privileged to work alongside Cermak Rhoades Architects to provide a durable and robust structure that will allow the Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis to serve residents for years to come.

Cathy Beck joins MMY

Cathy has been in the business for years, and joins us after taking time off to renovate her home along the Mississippi River.  She says she’ll miss hearing the call of the eagles in her backyard, but we’re confident we can make similar noises here to make her feel at home.

MMY welcomes Jessica LoBello, P.E.

Jessica’s background in residential and commercial design are a welcome addition to our team.  In addition to stepping into several projects right away, Jessica is providing guidance to several of our engineers-in-training.  We’re thrilled to have her aboard!

MPLS Armory in the news

During Super Bowl week, one of our favorite projects received quite a bit of attention from local media and national acts!  MMY served as Structural Engineer of Record for the Minneapolis Armory renovation, and we are thrilled to see the structure come into its final form.  After performing a thorough building condition assessment, our work included:

  • reinforcement of existing concrete frames
  • structural slab repairs and new venue floor
  • new steel-framed mezzanines
  • reinforcement of the 200′ steel roof trusses to support the hanging mezzanines (and pop stars)

MMY has added another David

David Hedberg, experienced EIT, joined our team earlier this summer, and we’re happy to have him aboard!  David is a University of Minnesota grad with several years of experience, allowing him to hit the ground running at MMY.   His transition has been so smooth that we assumed he’s been here all along!

Two new EIT’s

MMY Welcomes Peter Olney and Jordan Hurst to full time engineers-in-training!

Peter, recently back stateside after studying in Germany for five years, brings us vibration and structural dynamics expertise, and is getting experience on many different project types!

Jordan received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in Fall 2016 and is already knee-deep in helping with several projects as well!
